Department of Clinical Medicine offers Master of Medicine (Transfusion Medicine) programme to produce transfusion medicine specialist for the country. We are proud to be the only institution in Malaysia offering this 4-year academic programme.

Transfusion Medicine is an evolving field which integrates multidisciplinary science in providing safe blood and blood products for patients. The main role of Transfusion Medicine Specialist (TMS) is to make transfusion therapy safe to all patients. In order to achieve this, laboratory and clinical exposure are crucial to help TMS making the right decision in transfusion process. They will be able to perform tasks in the field of transfusion medicine, stem cell transplant, organ transplant and cord blood storage.

Graduates would be capable of playing an active role in research and contribute further towards the research and development of transfusion medicine. The need for specialists in this field is vital for the National Health Service.

Interested candidates will need to seat for MedEx (Medical Specialist Pre-Entrance Examination). Eligible candidates will be called for interview session usually held in PKTAAB.

This course is divided into 3 phases:

Phase 1 (Year 1) – Theory and laboratory - based practical

Phase 2 (Year 2 & 3) – Clinical Apprenticeship Research

Phase 3 (Year 4) – Specialist-in-training and research.
