Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Section
Overview
The Bioinformatics and Biostatistics Unit was formed to help researchers in AMDI.
Facilities
The Bioinformatics Unit which is equipped with the latest computers functions to educate students and researchers methods of utilizing bioinformatics to solve complicated biology questions.
The unit currently houses special computers suited for heavy bioinformatics usage, a meeting room and a mini library. Running under LINUX and MICROSOFT, the computers uses ACCELRYS for proteomic analysis and CLC BIO for genomic analysis.
Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20 is readily available at this unit to enable researchers to analyze their data using a variety of methods. Other than that, they also offer Power and Sample Software version 3.0.7 (Dupont and Plummer Inc) that determines sample size.
Function
The Biostatistics Unit focuses on:
- Providing consultation to students and staff on statistical methods when performing research.
- Becoming the leader of statistics usage in different areas.
- Assisting researchers improve their quality of scientific writing.
- Establishing the unit as a center for statistics and consultations.
- Organizing research workshops for AMDI students.
The Bioinformatics Unit focuses on:
• Providing genomic and proteomics data analysis software.
• Bioinformatics teaching tools and facilities.
• Offering facilities and training with the help of a computer.
Vision
Offering advise and consultancy services in the fields of bioinformatics, research methodology and statistical analysis.
