TNC HEPA WELCOMES NEW STUDENT OF AMDI

BERTAM, 2 September 2016 - A total of 22 new local and foreign students have joined the mix-mode program in AMDI. These students will be pursuing a Masters of Science (Medical Research, Health Toxicology, Oral Science and Transfusion Science).

Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs & Alumni USM, Professor Dato 'Dr. Adnan Hussein welcomed and congratulated all the students who chose to further their studies at USM.

"I am very proud of the achievements of AMDI in academia as they are the the first institution in the country to offer courses exclusively in the field of Transfusion Medicine and a Masters Degree in Nuclear Medicine”.

"AMDI has achieved great academic progress because of its good infrastructure and facilities. The university is invested in maintaining the welfare of students and therefore, constantly strives to meet the needs of students here," he said when officiating the orientation of AMDI’s new student.

As a first step, 3 blocks of quarters of the Ministry of Education, which is located in Kepala Batas will be rented out to students as AMDI has no accommodation facilities at the moment.

He hoped that the hostels will attract more students to AMDI and at the same time new programs will be offered in the future.

This student orientation is an annual event held to help students adjust to the new atmosphere and the campus environment. Briefings are held about the syllabus of the program, the use of laboratory and library so students have sufficient knowledge about AMDI. When asked to comment on their academic achievement in AMDI, Deputy Director of Academic and Student Affairs (BAHEP) AMDI, Associate Professor Dr. Bakiah Shaharuddin said the Master of Science (Medical Research) for mixed mode was launched in 2004 and still gets a good response.

"In AMDI, we offer academic programs that are not offered in any other institution in the country. For example, AMDI exclusively offers degree courses in Medicine Transfusion Medicine and Nuclear Medicine to meet the needs of physicians in the country. Our PhD and MsC research program continues to get rave reviews from local and international students, "he said.

"As of today, AMDI has a total of 80 academic staff consisting of scientists with PhD qualifications and academic experts consisting of physicians and dentists with a 1:2 to students. . With that ratio, students in AMDI can get optimal guidance and are able to develop their careers easily , "he explains.

Meanwhile at the same event, Professor Dato 'Dr. Adnan Hussein launched "Student Buddies" which aims to support student activities such as helping students adapt to their new learning environment, orientation programs, tours (tour buddies) and services of student advisors

"I am very impressed and commend the efforts of creating" Student Buddies "and hope it will be continue in the future to help other students as well," he said.

Under "Student Buddies", students can engage in activities that aim to foster good fellowship among students . Leisure activities such as "students coffee club" and will provide an opportunity for students to get to know each other and share any problems or issues related to education or personal. Activities such as "International Culture and Food Carnival" will provide exposure to different cultures so that students can appreciate the diversity on campus.

A dialogue session with students was also held to answer questions related to academic and general matters concerning the university.

Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Director of Academic and Student Affairs (BAHEP) AMDI, Associate Professor Dr. Bakiah Shaharuddin, Head of Clusters and lecturers.
