AMDI OFFERS ENDOSCOPY SERVICES

BERTAM, 17 AUGUST 2016 - Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is now offering endoscopy services to the public.

According to AMDI Director, Dr. Norehan Mokhtar, the establishment of these endoscopy services came at a right time because it will help the Clinical Oncology of AMDI in determining the appropriate treatment method for cancer patients.

" These endoscopy services benefit other patients as well as it is not only limited to cancer treatment but can also be used as an early detection method for patients who are at high risk for gastrointestinal tract cancer, "she said.

"This new service will also be very helpful for clinical research," she said while officiating the service in AMDI Clinical Complex.

This endoscopy service will also serve as a follow-up treatment for intestinal and colon cancer. Another additional function is to monitor those with gastric and intestinal inflammation.

In her speech, she congratulated Dr. Leow Meng Voon, General Surgery & Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary (HPB) Surgeon and the staff who helped set up the Endoscopy Unit of AMDI.

"All parties who were directly or indirectly involved with establishing this unit has helped the cancer patients in getting the best treatment " she said.

The opening ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Director of Clinical, AMDI, Dr. Yusri Mohammed Musa, medical specialists, medical officers and AMDI staff.
