CREATIVE THINKERS, FAST CHAMPIONS OF KIK CONVENTION 2016

KIK 2016

USM, PENANG, 20 July 2016 - Creative Thinkers group from Campus Health Services USM was crowned champion under the Administration category for their project “Difficulty of patients to reveal personal information when obtaining health services.” The group came up with an Android app that functions as a diary for patients.

According to the leader of the group, Siti Nurbaya Musa, the idea to build an app that serves as a diary enabling the medical history of patients to be stored makes treatment more effective.

“With this app, it makes it easier for us to track which medication is typically used by the patient, surgical history, and frequency of treatment,” added the assistant manager of Campus Health Services USM.

She also hopes that this app would be used not only within Campus Health Services but also in USM Hospital and the Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), USM.

In the Technical category, Fast from Advanced Medical and Dental Institute won for their project “Overcoming problems faced by patients during intravenous infusion therapy.”

This group designed an innovative sensor that was capable of detecting when the infusion is almost complete, as well as prevention of fluid embolism during intravenous infusion therapy.

The head of Fast, U42 nurse, Law Kim Sooi, stated that the sensor, “Drop Sensor” saves time and money. “Drop Sensor” will help nurses provide efficient and high-quality services, and only costs RM 81.20 per unit. Mrs. Law hopes that the design will be patented soon and will be used in hospitals nation-wide.

Both champions of KIK 2016 will represent USM in the Northern KIK Convention which will be held in Langkawi this August. The winner of each category will bring home a cash prize of RM 300 and a trophy.
KIK 2016 succeeded in bringing out the creativity amongst the participants and helped them grow holistically.

Prizes were presented by the Vice Chancellor of USM, Professor Dato’ Dr. Omar Osman. Also present was the Director of Centre for Global Sustainability Studies (CGSS), USM, Professor Dr. Kamarulazizi Ibrahim.
