Professor Dr. Peter J Anderson, is a senior consultant craniofacial surgeon at the Australian Craniofacial Unit. He graduated in Dentistry and Medicine from University of Edinburgh. He completed higher training in both Plastic Surgery and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery mostly in Glasgow, Oxford and London. He has a research interest in craniofacial biology and genetics and has undertaken three doctoral theses on all craniofacial biology encompassing MD/PhD/DSc-DSc which is a higher doctorate in this field. He is Senior Research Fellow at the Child Health Research Institute attached to Craniosynostosis and Wound healing laboratories. To date, he has written over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He has strong commitment to teaching clinical and research, as well as supervising doctoral candidates from Australia and international post-graduates. He is currently the Past President of the Asia Pacific Craniofacial Association and President of the Australia and New Zealand Craniomaxillofacial Society.

Prof Rani

Professor Dato Dr. Abdul Rani Samsudin

Professor Datuk Ab Rani Samsudin was the first Dean from November 1998 to August 2006. Ab Rani was born in Melaka in 1960 and had his formal education at the Royal Military College. He continued his studies at the College of Dentistry, University of Baghdad, Iraq and graduated with a BDS in 1983. From 1983 till 1990, Ab Rani served in the Ministry of Health Malaysia at several dental clinics in Kelantan and Kuala Lumpur. Dr Ab Rani joined the School of Medical Sciences, USM in 1991 and pursued his postgraduate studies in the field of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Glasgow. He obtained an FDSRCS in 1992 and set up the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Unit in HUSM. He has served the Ministry of Health, Malaysia and also in the National Health Service, United Kingdom. He was promoted to Associate Professor in February, 2000 and to Professor in November, 2003. He is currently the Dean of the University of Sharjah's College of Dentistry, UAE. Prof Ab Rani has been awarded the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM), which carries the title ‘Datuk’, on 11 October 2009. He is actively involved in continuing Education Programs for Dental Practitioners, Surgeons and also Charity medical missions for developing countries. He is currently a member of the Emirate Medical Association. Fellow of the International Associations of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has published in many national and international journals. He has received numerous awards including the Fellow of International College of Dentist USA in 2005 and Fellow of the French Academy of Dental Sciences in 2012.

Dr Xian Jun Loh is a polymer chemist working in the inter-disciplinary field of biomaterials. He is currently the Head of Research Planning at the Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) and an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He is also an adjunct scientist at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. His main research interests are in the design of supramolecular and stimuli-responsive polymers and hydrogels for biomedical and personal care applications. He is also concurrently leading the A*STAR Personal Care Programme. Currently, he is the author and co-author of 83 journal papers, 10 patents, 10 book chapters and 3 books, publishing mainly in the area of biomaterials.

Associate Professor Dr. T.P. KANNAN obtained his Ph.D. in Animal Genetics and Breeding from Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, India in 1999. He is currently a Lecturer in the School of Dental Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has to his credit more than 50 articles in reputed journals in addition to books and book chapters including a recent book titled ‘Dental stem cells: culturing for future’. Many of his outstanding publications have been recognized by Universiti Sains Malaysia with the awards Anugerah Sanggar Sanjung and Hadiah Sanjungan. His current research interests include dental stem cells, genotoxicity of biomaterials, cleft lip and palate in addition to telomere length in relation to longevity of life.

Zainul Rajion is an Associate Professor at the College of Dentistry, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery and Diagnostic Sciences, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Riyadh. His research interest includes 3D craniofacial reconstruction based on radiographic data and biomaterial.  He obtained his PhD in Medical Imaging of Craniofacial Deformity in 2004 at the University Of Adelaide, Australia.  He subsequently made research visit to the  Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Maastrich University, Medical Imaging Research Group, Radbound University Nijmegen, Netherlands and Oral Imaging Centre, School of Dentistry, Catholic University Leuven, Belgium. He was sponsored by the Malaysian Biotech Corporation to do Certificate for Entrepreneurship Learning from University of Cambridge in 2010. He is a recipient of various research grants includeing Australia’s Dental Research Foundation Grant, Yayasan FELDA’s Fundamental Top-Down Grant, Ministry of Higher Education, IRPA Top-Down, E-Science MOSTI, CRADLE Investment Fund and Research University Grant. He has published 60 scientific and proceeding papers widely in the area of craniofacial imaging, both nationally and internationally.
