Master of Medicine (Course Work)

AMDI aims at training and producing highly qualified clinical specialists. We offer two unique programmes in Malaysia that are only offered at AMDI which are the Masters of Medicine (Transfusion Medicine) and (Nuclear Medicine). The graduands from these programmes will serve as Transfusion Medicine specialists and Nuclear Medicine specialists.

A 4-year postgraduate programme. Graduate in this programme will be conferred Master of Medicine (Transfusion Medicine). The main aim of offering this programme is to produce Transfusion Medicine Specialist.

Graduates of this programme will be able to function more effectively in the Transfusion Medicine Department. They will be able to perform tasks in the field of transfusion medicine, stem cell transplant, organ transplant and cord blood storage. Graduates would be capable of playing an active role in research and contribute further towards the Research and Development in Transfusion Medicine. The need for specialists in this field is vital for the National Health Service.

Course Structure
This course is divided into 3 phases :

  • Phase 1 : Year 1 Theory and laboratory – based practicals
  • Phase 2 : Year 2 & 3 Clinical Apprenticeship Research
  • Phase 3 : Year 4 Specialist-in-Training and Research

Admission Requirements

  • MBBS/MD with at least 2 years experience
  • Registered with Malaysian Medical Council
  • Foreign applicants are required to have a minimum English langguage requirement and complete 3-6 month of clinical attachment in Malaysia prior to enrol to the program.
  • Passed the required interview

Durations : Full-time : Min. 4 years / Max. 7 years

Master of Medicine (Nuclear Medicine) is a 4 year postgraduate program offered by USM. The goal of this program is to produce experts in the field of nuclear medicine. At the end of this four-year course, candidates are awarded with degree of Master of Medicine (Nuclear Medicine). The program aims to train medical graduates to become nuclear medicine physicians to meet the needs of the country in this area of expertise. Nuclear medicine involves the use of radioactive materials to obtain clinical information to diagnose and treat certain diseases. The radiopharmaceutical handling techniques, physics, dosimetry and medical radiation protection are also included in the measure of learning. The candidates are also required to engage in the research activities as they are exposed to research methods and data analysis. The use of sophisticated machines such as SPECT-CT assists in producing a good quality of clinical and research outcomes.

“USM is the pioneer and the only university in Malaysia offering this program”. The pioneers of this program graduated as nuclear medicine physicians in 2012 from USM. To date, this program has produced 37 successful nuclear medicine physicians serving various hospitals in Malaysia.
