AMDI COMMITTED IN HELPING STUDENT POWERING STEM

Karnival STEM 1

TASEK GELUGOR, 9 March 2019 – Realising the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among students, the Oncological and Radiological Sciences Cluster and Radiology, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Unit (RON) members, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (IPPT), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have participated in STEM Carnival 3.0 which was held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kampung Selamat, Tasek Gelugor, Pulau Pinang.

The carnival’s theme is “Today’s Science - Tomorrow’s Technology” was aimed to nurture students’ awareness and interests in STEM. According to Head of Oncological and Radiological Sciences Cluster, Dr. Rafidah Zainon, “IPPT USM took this opportunity to get youngsters excited about STEM, inspire them to have fun and explore STEM via interactive activities such as exhibition on radiation protection in imaging and nuclear medicine, molecular biology research, 3D human model anatomy and quiz activity. We hope that this community work will spark the students’ interests in STEM and encourage them to chart their career path in the future.

The Head of RON, Dr. Muhammad Zabidi Ahmad, also said that the collaborative involvement of both units gave a spotlight for IPPT USM to promote the clinical services to community members at the same time. We also hope that through this community work, it helps the students to be more creative and improve critical thinking skills in their life.

The half-day programme gained a supportive feedback from the teachers, students and the local community members.
