USM AND NCX SIGNED MOU FOR DEVELOPMENT OF CANCER TREATMENT SERVICE

BERTAM, 14th May 2019 – Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Northern Corridor Xpressway Sdn.Bhd (NCX) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate in developing cancer and various other diseases treatment services.

MoU was signed between Deputy Vice Chancellor of Education and Network, Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, FASc on behalf of Vice Chancellor of USM and Executive Chairman and Northern Corridor Xpressway Sdn Bhd, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Rozian Md Yunus in AMDI’s Clinical complex.

According to Deputy Vice Chancellor of Education and Network, Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, FASc, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is always committed and open for collaborative door to all parties that intend to collaborate in any field for the benefit of the people and nation.

‘’As prestigious higher institution in this country, it is USM’s responsibility to lend a hand to any institution for collaborative work. Moreover we would like to share our expertise that could be translated into action plan for effective implementation,’’ he added.

‘’AMDI, USM is ready to assist in any cancer treatment aspects as it is the only cancer reference centre in northern region which is equipped with specialities and high class facilities such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, brachytherapy and nuclear medicine,’’ he further added during his brief speech.

The MoU Signing was witnessed by YB. Dato’ Haji Abdul Halim Haji Hussain, Exco of International and Domestic Trade, Consumer Welfare and Business Development, Penang State.

Over this memorandum, the two parties wished to setup a medical centre focusing on cancer treatment as well as development of halal products for patient's treatment. These cover the specialist clinic, product development and research as well as higher education centre for postgraduate studies.

The event was graced by the presence of AMDI’s Director, Professor Dr Syed Azhar Syed Sulaiman; Lt. General (B) Datuk Hanif Darimi (TUDM), Northern Corridor Xpressway Sdn Bhd’s Chairman and officers from both institutions.
