VICE CHANCELLOR MADE VIBRANT AMDI’S OPEN HOUSE

Aidilfitri 2017

BERTAM, June 13, 2017 - Aidilfitri Open House Ceremony organized by Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was made more vibrant with the presence of USM’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail.

The Vice Chancellor in her speech said she was very proud of the hard work shown by the staff and students who diligently prepared meals for the ceremony.

"It is my hope that through cooking activities and communal work, it will strengthen friendship and nurture camaraderie among students and staff regardless of rank and position," she said.

"This is a unique and distinctive experience we have the opportunity to taste delicacies from abroad prepared by international students. The students and staff involved with this event should be commended," she added.

For the first time, the open house event included the participation of international and local students who helped prepare special cuisine from their respective countries.

Among the favorites of this occasion was the 'bamboo chicken' or commonly known as 'manuk pansuh' by the Dayak people in Sarawak.

This traditional dish is cooked in bamboo and roasted over firewood or ember. More interestingly, this dish was cooked communally by both local and foreign students.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor visited all stalls while socializing and shaking hands with staff, students and guests attending the event.

Also present were the Assistant Rector of Universiti Teknologi Mara, Penang Branch, Bertam campus, Dr. Mohd Izani Othman; the Police Chief of North Seberang Perai District, ACP Azmi Adam; the Director of Islamic Center of USM, Associate Professor Dr. Sofri Yahya.
