UNIVERSITY ENCOURAGES CULTURE OF INNOVATION IN ITS COMMUNITY

USM, PENANG, July 19, 2017 - Protech and R-3 Galaxy groups from Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) were announced winners for Management Category and Technical Category in USM 2017 Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) competition held at the USM Culture Hall today.

The winners were presented with their awards by the USM’s Registrar, Professor Dato' Dr. Abd. Aziz Tajuddin, representing the Vice Chancellor of USM.

In the officiation speech of the convention’s closing ceremony, he said the university strongly encouraged its community to always engage in innovative and creative activities.

"This is in line with the role of the university as a leader and explorer of the discovery of new knowledge that can be utilized by community members”.

“The involvement of staff in such activities adds values and will produce critical thinking and multitasking staff," he added.

Universiti Sains Malaysia 2017 Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) Convention is a field of exploration and sharing of new knowledge which can be applied in the daily tasks of their respective departments.

This year, the theme of "Cultivating Innovation, Driving Transformation" was selected in line with the transformation program introduced by the government.

According to IPPT’s Director, Chairman of KIK 2017, Dr. Norehan Mokhtar, the convention enables every department to evaluate their level of excellence as well as identify their strengths, weaknesses and helps them improve.

"I hope that all of us will work hard in practicing high quality service and work culture and multiplying efforts to improve productivity," she said.

The KIK convention involved the participation of four groups consisting of two groups for Management category and two other groups for Technical category.

Also present at the event were the Director of University Quality Center, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Haji Mohamad; the Director of Prosperity Center, Dr. Normala Abdul Wahid and the Senior Deputy Registrar of Human Transformation Center, Mohamad Abdullah.
