BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH SHOULD BE MADE INTO AN ANNUAL EVENT

BERTAM, 21 October 2016 - October is worldwide Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) which aims to create awareness of breast cancer among the general public, educate and provide support to those living with breast cancer.
According to Dr Muhammad Yusri Musa, the clinical deputy director of AMDI, activities held during BCAM provides knowledge and awareness of breast cancer among the public.

“We strive to make this an annual event in years to come. The involvement of all parties are crucial to ensure the success of these activities,” he stated.

“AMDI has become a cancer hub and the majority of our cancer patients are breast cancer patients. Now, we are able to provide 100% of treatment for breast cancer patients here in AMDI. Naturally, it is our responsibility to educate the public about this disease too.”

“Since breast cancer is the leading type of cancer in the world, there should be more awareness among public about this cancer,” he added during the opening ceremony of BCAM here at AMDI .

In conjunction with the celebration of BCAM, AMDI organized a variety of activities including seminar sessions, exhibitions on breast cancer awareness and free mammogram screening in the Mobile Medical Coach.

The chairman of this program, Dr. Farish Hafeez Shaharuddin expressed his gratitude and appreciation to those involved in making this a successful event as well as those were were involved with cancer patient treatment in AMDI.

“As a health care professional who is used to facing cancer patients daily, I hope we can help others by sharing our knowledge about breast cancer to everyone around us . By doing so, there would be early detection among those at risk and we would be able to save their lives ,” he said.

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer and is the leading cause of cancer deaths among women in Malaysia. However, the public awareness of early detection of breast cancer c is still low . Most of the time, the patients are already in a critical stage by the time the cancer is detected.

Dr. Yusri also presented souvenirs to cancer patients who are undergoing treatment in the In-patient Ward and the Daily Treatment Unit of AMDI.

Also present at this event were medical officers, nurses and administrative staff from AMDI.
